Our network offices have informed us of several weather events that are affecting ocean operations in Asia.
Red Alert at Raigad/JNPT/INNSA
These Indian ports are currently under a Red Alert due to continuous heavy rainfall and high wind speeds. These weather conditions have caused significant delays in vessel berthing and sailing schedules, as well as severe road congestion, which affects export container gate-in and import container evacuation from the terminals.
Other Terminals
– BMCTPL port operations have been suspended until further notice due to adverse weather conditions. The suspension is resulting in delays to vessel berthing and sailing.
– NSICT and NSIGT are at slow productivity due to heavy rainfall and strong winds. Terminal operations are being suspended intermittently whenever visibility becomes poor or wind conditions exceed safe operating limits.
– APMT operations remain very slow and operations are being halted intermittently during periods of poor visibility and unsafe wind conditions, resuming only when weather permits.
A serious accident occurred at NSFT due to strong winds toppling containers. The incident resulted in one fatality and one person sustaining severe injuries. Following the incident, NSFT operations have been suspended until further notice pending investigation and safety clearance.
Typhoon Bavi to Affect Asia Operations
Super Typhoon Bavi is making its way across the western Pacific Ocean. According to current weather reports, the storm may touch Taiwan, then head into eastern China, possibly reaching Shanghai by July 11. Port delays and disruptions are expected.
