Congress Passes FAA Reauthorization Bill with TSA Provisions

Congress has passed legislation (H.R. 302) which will reauthorize Federal aviation programs for five years, including reauthorization of the National Transportation Safety Board and the Transportation Security Administration. The passage of this bill mandates the relaunch of TSA’s Air Cargo Security Division, a development for which the Airforwarders Association (AfA) has strongly advocated. As a result, TSA will be able to work more efficiently with the shipping industry and create a policy that not only enhances operations but improves overall security for cargo and passenger planes, according to the AfA. H.R. 302 also mandates a review of the Known Shipper Program.
