Ports of Virginia and Georgia Explore New Alliance

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has given permission for the port authorities of Georgia and Virginia to pursue discussions on a port alliance. Georgia and Virginia, with their container gateways of Savannah and Norfolk, have drawn up an East Coast Gateway Terminal Agreement, “to exchange information related to the best use of their wharves, berths and cargo handling equipment, all to the benefit of the shipping public.”
