AfA Issues Alert on Lithium Battery Compliance

The Airforwarders Association (AfA) issued this alert this week. „It has come to the attention of AfA’s Regulatory Compliance Committee that at least one foreign air carrier is refusing to accept shipments containing lithium batteries transiting the United States that have been packaged in compliance with the 2017-2018 ICAO Technical Instructions/58th Edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGRs), which went into effect on January 1, 2017. The current edition of the DGRs introduced a new lithium battery mark and lithium battery Class 9 label. IATA’s guidance on the proper packaging of shipments containing lithium batteries under the current edition of the DGRs is available here.“
